Fifteen & Sixteen?!? Months….

25 Sep

Our little guy turned sixteen months old earlier this week. I have tried to write a monthly post since we started our food journey with Liam at four months (wow, has it really been a year?) but these past two months just slipped right by me.  Liam’s personality and energy level are both exploding right now.  Life with Liam is exhausting, but it is so much fun!

Liam started preschool last month at First Baptist Church and he loves it!   He is learning all about colors, shapes, and the seasons and has library time and chapel each week.  The teachers are so sweet and I love all of the cute little crafts he comes home with.  I’m pretty sure I couldn’t draw this perfect of a circle, must less glue all of those little red dots inside the lines,  so obviously he is a budding Picasso or maybe he just has really patient teachers?….

Liam also visits our neighbor and his pal “Chimmer” (aka Chasity) twice a week.  She keeps him busy with all kinds of activities and lessons about shapes, colors, counting, and the ABCs.  He is learning so much right now and it is really a fun stage to have a little one.  His curiosity is plentiful and he looks to us to tell him about everything he sees!

We have really seen Liam open up in his communication skills thanks to Chimmer’s help and his teachers.  He points at everything now and is even saying a few words like duck, teeth, and bath.  I really think Liam understands most, if not all, of what we say to him.  He follows commands and reacts to what we say even though he still can’t fully communicate back to us in his own words.   He will have a few tantrums here and there when he doesn’t get his way (what toddler doesn’t?), but for the most part he is a very happy child.

Liam LOVES to be outside and most of his tantrums result from him not getting to either 1) Go outside, 2) Stay outside, or 3) ride in his car.  One of my favorite things to do now is to watch Liam play outside.  As adults, we get so busy in our day to day life that we often ignore the beauty of the world around us.  There isn’t anything like watching a little one stop to explore a pine needle or leaf for a few minutes to make us see the world in a different light.

On the food front, Liam’s schedule has not changed from the previous post.  He still eats everything that we offer him and eats a lot of it.  He is starting to show a lot of interest in the spoon and fork.  It’s messy, but he loves sticking his spoon in whatever he is eating and putting it to his mouth.  I think he will have this down by the holidays.  He also really enjoys helping me clean up his highchair tray after a meal.  I think he may have a little of his parent’s OCD based on how meticulously he wipes his tray down with a wipe.  I have been experimenting with a few recipes for him that I hope to post soon.  We cook all of the time, but getting the camera out and taking a picture for the blog is definitely an afterthought.  I hope to get a little more organized with this in the coming months.  Liam loves to be in the kitchen and even has his own special drawer of kitchen utensils.  Here is he working on a “fruit salad” (oh and that’s Binky in the background, he’s kind of important around here now)…

My friend Katie of Katie Rozier Photography was sweet enough to take on the task of photographing our active little guy this month.  She is super talented and always makes our family look picture perfect!

Here are a few of our favorites from that session…

Liam has a little toy guitar that was his Aunt Erin’s when she was a little girl.  Whenever Matt walks in his room, he starts pointing to the guitar and Matt will play a song for him.  Liam loves to strum his guitar, so he may have a little bit of his daddy in him after all…

Happy as long as someone is pulling…

I know I am a little biased, but he really is adorable…
